Our Pastor

Pastor Josh Farrell with his wife, Bethany, with their daughters, Miriam (3) and Rachel (1)

Pastor Josh Farrell is the son of Pastor Doug Farrell from Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City, and his wife Bethany is the daughter of Pastor Jeff Duffy from First Baptist Church in Yarmouth. They have two little girls, Miriam (3) and Rachel (1), and a boy on the way in April 2017.

Josh made a profession of faith in Christ at the age of 4. He was sitting at home one day playing with toys and was pondering a lesson his Sunday School teacher had shared the previous Sunday over the topic of Heaven and Hell. She explained that only those who had accepted the gift of salvation which was made possible through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection were able to enter Heaven. Everyone else was sent to a place of punishment forever because of their sin. Josh understood that he had never accepted Christ’s work for him and was terrified of the thought of spending eternity in Hell. He went and found his mother who showed him from the Word of God how he could receive the gift of salvation. She showed him John 3:16 and explained that because of sin God sent His Son to pay the penalty for the sin of all mankind. She went on to explain Romans 10:13 and that whoever called on the name of the Lord would be saved. Josh knelt down with his mother that afternoon, confessed his sin to God, and received Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized at the age of 7 by Pastor Doug Farrell at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City.

Bethany also made a profession of faith at the age of 4. She had heard the message of the gospel many times both at church and at home through her parents. Following bedtime prayer every evening, her parents would ask her if she was ready to accept Christ into her life. She would usually say no or that she was not ready yet. One night after saying no, she was lying on her bed and it hit her that she was going to spend eternity apart from God forever in Hell because of her sin. She got up out of bed and ran into her parent’s room to tell them that she was ready to be saved. Her parents grabbed a Bible and went back to her room where they sat on the floor and walked her through the plan of salvation one more time just to be sure she understood what she was doing. She then prayed and accepted Christ into her life. She was baptized at the age of 6 by Pastor Jeff Duffy at Fellowship Baptist Church in Des Moines.

Josh and Bethany learned from a young age how to serve the Lord with the talents and abilities that God had given them both in the local church and at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. They both served at the camp as part-time summer staff. It was during Sr. High Camp 2007 that they individually felt God calling them into full-time Christian ministry. They both made a commitment that week to pursue ministry in the future and get further training at a Bible College. Following graduation from high school, they both went on to gain further ministry education from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny. Josh was in the Pastoral Major and Bethany was in the Local Church Ministry/Biblical Counseling Major when they met and God began to draw them together as a couple. They both graduated with their degrees from the college and were married on September 1, 2012.

Since then Pastor and Bethany Farrell served the Lord at Calvary Baptist Church in West Des Moines from March 2011 to October 2014 before the Lord called them to Brayton.
